About the Department (PZI)

PZI helps the town identify and carry out its vision for sustaining existing and future populations and offers professional planning, zoning, building code, engineering, and geographic information services to residents, property owners, businesses, and visitors. Departmental staff also provide support to a number of standing citizen advisory boards and commissions and to citizen committees that are formed to consider special projects.

The departmental structure includes three Divisions:

Planning, which handles long-range, environmental and transportation planning as well as requests for property rezoning.

Zoning, which handles land use permitting and compliance and administration of the development review process.

Inspections which handles residential and commercial building code compliance and Minimum Housing Code enforcement. Visit this link to learn about permits for building, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical projects.
