Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot remains unknown about the size and scope of this year’s event. We are currently accepting applications and proceeding with our usual event, but modifications including a reduced number of performers, limits to crowd sizes, limited availability of venues, virtual streaming options, and more may be necessary.
The Town of Carrboro is now accepting applications from amateur and professional musicians for its 23rd Annual Free Music Festival on Sunday, October 4th, 2020. The kick-off event is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, 2020. The deadline to apply for consideration for selection for this year’s event is July 15th, 2020.
The Carrboro Music Festival is a "play for free" showcase for Triangle-based musicians to celebrate music in our community. Attempts are made to strike a balance between our returning festival performers and first-timers. Please be aware that previous participation does not guarantee you a spot. We cannot accommodate everyone who applies to play.
Application Process Applications received after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list. CDs, digital audio files, or website samples are required from anyone who has not previously played the Carrboro Music Festival. Musicians are encouraged to bring merchandise to their performance, however, they are completely responsible for their sales.
A large percentage of the venues, both indoor and outdoor, have sound systems and sound techs. The exceptions are a handful of small venues (with solo or duo performers) where the musicians run their own sound, either with their own sound systems or with those provided by the Festival.
Once the application period closes, applicants who are selected will be contacted by late August or early September when scheduling is typically finalized.
