The Town of Carrboro is pleased to announce Jon Hartman-Brown as our new Economic Development Director.
Jon Hartman-Brown comes to the Town of Carrboro from the City of Elizabethton in East Tennessee. During his tenure there, he worked to recruit new retail, redevelop old industrial properties, help revitalize downtown Elizabethton, and brought Main Street America accreditation to the city.
Additionally, Hartman-Brown worked to shift the city and county’s economic development strategy to focus on entrepreneurship and small business development.
Hartman-Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Milligan University and has completed coursework in economic development and planning at East Tennessee State University. He has worked in planning, redevelopment, and economic development for more than 10 years.
“My passion for entrepreneurship and sustainable economies align well with the goals of Carrboro,” Hartman-Brown said. “The Town is moving in the right direction, and I am looking forward to playing a role in continuing to build a resilient, sustainable economy there.”
Hartman-Brown will be moving to the Triangle area with his husband and plans to start at the Town on July 1.
The Town of Carrboro appreciates the service of Betsy Bertram, who stepped in as interim economic development director during a challenging period for small businesses in our community.
