CARRBORO, N.C. -- At 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, the Carrboro Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of NC 54 and Abbey Lane.
An investigation determined that the driver of a passenger car, Coral Maxwell, 21, of Carrboro, failed to yield the right of way when turning and struck a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, Julius Stuart, 21, of Chapel Hill, was critically injured and transported to UNC Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Stuart died due to his injuries.
Maxwell was charged at the scene with failure to yield the right of way. Her charge has been upgraded to misdemeanor death by vehicle. Maxwell’s initial court date is June 12, 2023 in Hillsborough.
