Pipe Replacement Will Detour Drivers on Old N.C. 86 in Orange County

CHAPEL HILL – N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews must close a section of Old N.C. 86 between Eubanks Road and Homestead Road near Chapel Hill in Orange County to replace an aging pipe that crosses underneath the roadway.

In its place will be two larger pipes. Crews will close the road at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 19. It is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 7, weather permitting.
Motorists traveling through the area will be detoured onto Eubanks Road, Rogers Road and Homestead Road.
Transportation officials advise drivers to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
