Board of Aldermen Meeting Summary

The Carrboro Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Following is a brief summary of noteworthy actions. It does not include all actions taken at the meeting and should not be viewed as official minutes. Police Sergeant Retirement
The Board of Aldermen approved a request to award a service sidearm to retiring Police Sergeant Roy Tripp.  Sgt. Tripp will retire from the Carrboro Police Department on October 1, 2017 after 10 years of service. 

Support Pledged for Carrboro DACA Beneficiaries
The Board of Aldermen passed a resolution asking the town manager to identify funds and, if possible, funding partners to support El Centro Hispano in its work to assist Carrboro residents who are DACA beneficiaries.  Residents who are affected by the changes to DACA should contact the town manager or El Centro Hispano for assistance. 

Parking Plan Implementation Strategies
The Board of Aldermen heard updates on the parking plan implementation strategies from staff.  Staff will be launching a wayfinding project, working with private property owners to match parking needs with parking availability, and continue discussions related to public-private parking partnerships.   

Appointments to the Affordable Housing Advisory Commission
The Board of Aldermen made the initial appointments to the Affordable Housing Advisory Commission.  The Commission will establish a meeting schedule within the coming months.
Work Session on Picketing, Parades, and Public Assembly
The Board of Aldermen discussed possible regulations with the town attorney.  Staff was directed to place a priority on banning weapons, as allowed by state statute and to bring back any additional areas of concern to the Board at a future meeting date.
