Plant-Based for the Planet October Potluck
In January 2017, the Carrboro Board of Aldermen approved Carrboro’s first Community Climate Action Plan.
Carrboro’s Community Climate Action Plan focuses on six major measures to lower the Town’s greenhouse gas emissions. One of these measures areas is Food Choice, which promotes a plant-based diet to reduce Carrboro’s greenhouse gas emissions. According to the World Watch Institute, livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Moving toward a plant-based diet should significantly help the Carrboro community achieve its greenhouse gas emission reduction goals of 50% per capita by 2025.
The Town is partnering with the Plant-Based for the Planet community group to promote Food Choice. The first community event to kick-off these efforts will be a plant-based potluck on Sunday, October 1st, at 6:00pm at Carrboro’s Century Center. See below for more information or visit the event’s Meetup page for more information at https://www.meetup.com/Plant-based-for-the-Planet-in-Carrboro/
