Floraffiti returns to Carrboro for a sixth year.

Floraffiti, the popular community engagement project that blends creative placemaking, social activism, and visual, literary, and performing arts returns to Chapel Hill and Carrboro for a sixth year.  In the project, an artist and volunteers plant red clover seeds throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro.  When the seedlings bloom they spell out words chosen during public writing and poetry workshops.
Artist Carter Hubbard and her collaborator Sonny Kelly, a local poet, storyteller and teacher, will lead workshops at the PTA Thrift Shop’s collaborative YouthWorx at 117 W. Main St. in Carrboro.  Adults can join Thursday, March 29, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.  Teens are welcome at the same time and location on April 3, 5, 7, and 10.  To sign up for one or more of the workshops contact:
Participants will become official “floragardeners” and have the opportunity to plant a word integral to the prose or poetry developed at the workshops.  Floragardeners can also read their works at the 2nd Friday Art Walk on May 11.
The project aims to demonstrate a commitment to cultural identity and a reflection of the citizenry, with the end result being the creation of a sustainable visitor destination.
Florafitti is sponsored by the Orange County Arts Commission, Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitor’s Bureau, Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture, Carrboro Arts Committee, Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Carrboro Tourism and Development Authority, Carrboro Coffee Roasters & Open Eye café, Jay Parker, Weaver Street Realty, PTA Thrift Shop & YouthWorx on Main, Townsend Bertram & Co., VIP Print and Sign of Chapel Hill, and WCHL
Carter Hubbard, formerly a resident of Carrboro, now resides in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and describes herself as a social activist artist and visual linguist.
