WHY I SERVE
Carrboro is a town that has welcomed so many people, including me, to feel safe and at home. My goal as a council member is to expand that welcome as broadly as possible. To me, that means expanding affordable housing options and supporting those most in need among us. I also want Carrboro to live up to its climate action and racial equity commitments.
WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT CARRBORO
As a queer nonbinary person, I deeply value Carrboro's embrace of its LGBTQ+ community - from a decades-long run of gay and lesbian mayors to enthusiastic town Pride events. Once I found Carrboro, I knew I was home.
BIO
Catherine Fray is honored to serve on the Town Council. They are the first nonbinary person to be elected to office in the state of North Carolina. Before serving on council, they served for 11 years on the Planning Board, including two stints as chair, and co-chaired the Carrboro Connects Comprehensive Planning Taskforce. In their professional life, they help solve accounting problems with software. In their spare time, they foster cats and kittens and sing in a cover band. Catherine and their wife Amy have lived on Alabama Ave since 2010.
